At WCS we value the importance of a sustainable future and are embracing the UK target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
We are committed to minimising the carbon footprint of our projects however we can. By participating in environmental workshops, both internally and with our partners and clients across all project types, we are identifying environmental risks, researching mitigation measures, and evaluating design decisions against their carbon impact.
We understand that civil engineering needs to deliver more sustainable solutions. And that’s why we’re pleased to be using RSSB’s Rail Carbon Tool on all our rail projects.
A web-based platform, the Rail Carbon Tool has been produced to help the UK railway industry better understand and measure the carbon footprint of projects by calculating the embodied carbon in terms of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e). With it, we can produce a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Assessment in line with Network Rail’s Capital Carbon Guidance Note, which enables us to identify critical GHG hotspots, propose reduction opportunities for measured carbon, and select low carbon alternatives in accordance with our client’s requirements.
Using these types of software accords with our goals and company ethos and WCS are pleased to be using the Rail Carbon Tool for our work on GRIP Stages 3,4 and 5 as part of a CP6 Framework for Bridge Strengthening and Replacement schemes.
