WCS is proud to be supporting the extension of Eccles Substation – a project that will become the UK’s first site to combine both static and synchronous compensation equipment. Once operational, the substation will enable up to 280 megawatts of renewable energy to connect to the electricity grid, with the potential to power more than 360,000 homes.
Having already supported the civil tender process for our client, Hitachi Energy, our civil engineering design team is now delivering value engineering input through civil and structural design assurance, and undertaking the role of full-time On-Site Resident Engineer. We are also leading Temporary Works Coordination and delivering specialist foundation design solutions to support the 23m long, 300 tonne Synchronous Compensators.
A key highlight of the project so far has been supporting the safe delivery and installation of 200+ tonne transformers.
